Minutes of the
President Phil Dawkins called the meeting to order at 10:00AM. There were 23 members present, and Jamie Furman was introduced as a new member.
Phil welcomed everyone and introduced IHSA Assistant Executive Director Ron McGraw, who once again thanked everyone for the usual excellent job they have done this weekend. Ron mentioned the new IHSA.TV network which will be streaming today's finals live on the internet for the first time. This broadcast will be available "on demand" for anyone who wishes to go back and view it.
A thank you note from Judy Donaldson and Elaine Patterson of the IHSA official's department was circulated. Judy and Elaine are retiring this year.
Mike Adams from the Illinois Swimming Association (ISA) spoke briefly and invited all officials to attend the annual Banquet on Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Diplomat West in Elmhurst. Phil Dawkins also encouraged members to attend. The Romsted-Drumm award is presented each year at this banquet to an ISOA member.
The minutes of the August, 2009 meeting were accepted without corrections.
Al Wienke delivered the Treasurer's Report. We currently have 110 members and $1800 in our treasury.
Mike Hutton spoke about the ISOA Observer's Program. Last year, we received a grant of $150 from the IHSA for this program and only used $25 for one observation. As a result, did not receive the additional $125. We have been budgeted for $100 again this year for this program. If we do not use it, our chances of receiving future grants diminishes greatly. Please contact Mike Hutton for more information on this program or if you are interested in arranging an observation.
Nominating Committee: Mark Anderson, A.C. Buehler and Nancy Myer are accepting nominations for the offices of Vice President and Secretary, which will be voted upon at the February meeting. Nominations can be submitted up to the date of the meeting and from the floor during the meeting.
Awards Committee: Orv Kersten, Nancy Myer and Kim Ramsey will accept nominations for Official of the Year, Most Improved and Rookie of the Year until February 1, 2010. Please contact any member of this committee to make a nomination.
Top 15 ballots were collected and will be tallied following today's meeting.
Phil Dawkins mentioned that the IHSA Official's Advisory Committee will be
discussing this topic at their April meeting.
Nancy Myer spoke briefly about the Illinois Diving Association (IDA) and encouraged our members to attend their meets and clinics. Membership is $11 per year.
Phil Dawkins reminded members that any organization can request a traditional, "in-person" rules meeting from the IHSA if the meeting will accompany a clinic. Also, Joe Plack will again conduct his January clinic at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview on Sunday, January 10, 2010. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling Joe at (312) 861-8648. This will be a Level 2 clinic.
Bart Smith spoke regarding room rates at the Fairfield Inn in Glenview. He has received a commitment from the hotel to offer our members a rate of $49 per night for the boy's State Final in February. The Fairfield Inn is located at 4514 W. Lake Avenue in Glenview and their number is (847) 299-1600.
Tom Strunk spoke about an offer he has to sell air horns for $13 and refill canisters for $10. Tom will then donate his profits to the ISOA. Tom can be contacted at acp.inc@juno.com or by phone at (847) 674-4957 for more information.
Phil thanked Mike Hutton and A.C. Buehler for speaking at the pre-Sectional clinic for Meet Referees and Diving Referees. Phil also thanked Kevin Moss for his preparation of the voting grid used to tally the Top 15 list.
Al Wienke presented Irma Gripp with a bag of aluminum can pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald house. Save tabs for Irma!
A motion for adjournment was made and seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 10:50AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara E. Richardson
Secretary
