Minutes of the
Vice President Bill Bavirsha called the Meeting to order at 1:30 PM.
Bill welcomed the members and thanked those members who stayed after the IHSA sponsored clinic. He stated that we have two other planned meetings that take place at the Girls and Boys State Finals.
Bill called upon the secretary Tom Kite to read the minutes from the last meeting held February 27, 2010 at Evanston H.S. The minutes were read and an error in the minutes was noted. The original minutes stated the Dave Robertson was from Evanston H.S.. The minutes were corrected to state that Dave Robertson was a New Trier Coach.
A Treasurer's Report was not available.
Mike Hutton was called upon to update the Observer's program. The IHSA has
required the ISOA to maintain a program. Information about the program can
be found on the ISOA website. The program has remained the same for the last
couple of years. Any member may request an observation. Observations are not
required. The program was started in all sports. Surveys of former officials
showed that officials were not getting help in improving their skills. This
resulted in officials leaving the system.
Mike Hutton was asked to give an update on the ISOA website which he maintains. The website is still available. Some upgrades have been made and there are plans for further upgrades.
Bill asked that members use the website. It is very accurate and up to date. Mike said he had recently updated the page by page. Mike explained that because of personnel changes in the IHSA some of the information concerning clinics has been late.
Mark Anderson noted that since we are delaying the Top 15 Officials list to the boys season certified officials could complete top 15 lists on the IHSA website. This is another source of top 15 lists for the IHSA.
Bill Bavirsha requested volunteers for the two nominating committees:
The first is the Nominating Committee for the election of the following officers:
President, Treasurer and Member at Large. Volunteers are Nancy Myer, Mark
Anderson, Barbe Richardson.
Mike Hutton promised to post the committees on the website and provide an explanation of the process for nominating. Phil Dawkins' and Mike Hutton's terms are up. Al Wienke is available for nomination because he was appointed to the office by Phil Dawkins.
Ollie Dunson expressed his concerns about the children in Chicago. He has approached the Mayor of Chicago's office for the support of swimming programs. He has requested the support of the ISOA.
Bill commended Ollie for his continuous efforts to improve swimming programs especially in Chicago. Bill recommended that everyone should make an effort to officiate meets the inner cities of our major cities.
A motion for adjournment was made by Barbe Richardson, 2nd Ollie Dunson. Motion passed.
Meeting adjourned at 1:52PM.
Respectively submitted
Tom Kite, Secretary
