Minutes of the ISOA Meeting – Saturday, February 24, 2007

New Trier High School

 

President Phil Dawkins called the meeting to order at 10:05AM.


Phil introduced
Ron McGraw, Assistant Executive Director of the IHSA who thanked the officials for the excellent work at Friday’s prelims and for volunteering their time this weekend. Ron also recognized his assistant, Cheryl Mitchell and Jackie Iverson of the IHSA for their work in putting on the meet.

Phil also introduced Dave Robertson, retired New Trier coach, who was in from Florida. Dave presented Ron McGraw a 1967 coin which he has carried for many years for good luck and making decisions.

Barb Richardson read the minutes from the November meeting. Motion by Bill Bavirsha to accept the minutes as read. Second by Madelynn Martino. Motion passed.


Treasurer's report by Al Wienke:  Bank Balance is $582.26 as of February 22, 2007. Motion by Patt Chase to accept the report. Second by Ollie Dunson. Motion passed. Al also mentioned that the ISOA has received a thank you and acknowledgement letter from the Ola Bundy Scholarship Fund for our donation of $200.

 

Mike Hutton presented the ISOA Observer’s Program as a proposed addition to our by-laws. After much discussion, a motion was made by Bill Bavirsha to accept the proposal as written. Second by Mike Wolz. Motion passed with one nay vote.

The election committee presented candidates for ISOA positions, circulated ballots, and tabulated them. Phil Dawkins, Al Wienke, and Mike Hutton were re-elected to the positions of President, Treasurer, and Member-At-Large respectively.

 

Phil encouraged everyone to attend the annual IHSA Official's Conference in Peoria July 20-21. There are many mini-sessions available for officials to attend, as well as a clinic in each sport.

 

The Awards Committee announced the recipients of the 2007 ISOA Official's Awards: Rookie of the Year, Richard Raske; Most Improved, Emil Barbato; and Official of the Year to Kevin Moss.

 

Charlie McCarthy had samples of, and ordering information for new white uniforms (shirts and pants) which have the IHSA logo embroidered on them and have been approved for use by swimming and diving officials. These garments are available directly from Minerva Sportswear, which is an IHSA vendor. A wide range of styles and sizes are available.

 

Phil thanked the Committees and everyone for working the meet. A special note of recognition was made for Madelynn Martino, who will be retiring from active officiating after this season.

 

Motion by Madelynn Martino to adjourn the meeting. Second by Bart Smith. Meeting was adjourned at 11:10AM.
